Underweight?

Hey there! I have a little girl ferret, about a year old, and i’m kind of concerned about her weight. Her hips are kind of indented but her stomach is pudgy and she walks and runs fine. She also eats just fine.

What do you think?

I normally judge mine by how thick the muscle above the hips is. Don’t know if that makes sense but here’s a photo to show you:

This girl had a thyroid condition and was seriously underweight when this photo was taken, your Jill looks quite small so I wouldn’t expect her to be super big but you don’t want to be essentially feeling just bones.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Kierrauwu

What a pretty girlie! She looks perfect to me. Have you weighed her? Ferrets are always much slimmer in the summer months and can look very under weight but I don’t think there is anything to worry about.

Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better :))

Hi
She looks absolutely fine to me also.
Weighing regularly helps with monitoring.
I weigh at least 4 times a year, giving summer and winter weights as guidance.
Some put loads on and lose it some don’t! Also depends on indoor or outdoor.
